STUDY BASICS

Are you pregnant? If so, you may be eligible to participate in a research study to examine the difference in cognition between women with pre-eclampsia and women without preeclampsia who plan to deliver at Magee. Compensation is provided.

STUDY PURPOSE

Our goal is to evaluate changes in thinking ability between those women who are preeclamptic vs. those who are not preeclamptic.

COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?
  • Pregnant (with or without preeclampsia)
  • Plan to deliver at Magee

WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT

You will come to the Magee for one visit that lasts about 1 hour before you deliver.  At this visit, you will complete cognitive activities. The same cognitive activities will be repeated at 1 month and 3 months after delivery.

At the time of childbirth and only if you undergo cesarean section under spinal and/or combined spinal/epidural or vaginal delivery combined spinal/epidural under anesthesia, we will collect spinal fluid (this is an optional study activity). This extra step does not require additional procedures.
