STUDY BASICS
Are you over the age of 50 and interested in participating in a research study that will examine how anxiety and worry contribute to aspects of aging, including brain and body aging, as well as risk for Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. The results of this study will help us design therapies that address individual needs of older people with anxiety
STUDY PURPOSE
The purpose of this study is to learn more about Alzheimer’s disease and dementia risk. We will do this by looking at how anxiety and worry may affect different areas of aging in participants in The Effect of Rumination, Anxiety, and Worry on Aging and Dementia Risk (RAW) study.
COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?
We are recruiting 352 individuals, ages 50 and above, of both sexes and all races, to participate in this study. We are recruiting participants who feel stressed about how much they worry about daily things. We are also recruiting participants who have fewer difficulties with worrisome thoughts.
WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT
The study will last around 2 years. The first visit may last up to 2.5 hours, second visit will last about 4 hours, and the third visit will last approximately 4 hours. If schedules permit and you prefer to combine visit two and three into one visit, we will make every attempt to combine the two visits. You will then be contacted again approximately two years later. At the two year mark, the study visits will last a total of approximately 8 hours. The first visit will happen either virtually or in person and the second visit will happen in-person. Study procedures include:
- Comprehensive Clinical Evaluation
- Blood draw and hair sampling
- Optional Ultrasound
- fMRI brain scan
- Cognitive Performance Assessment
