Healthy Home Lab Technology Evaluation: PrivyPod – Adults 65 and older

STUDY BASICS

Do you have moving difficulty or use a moving aide (e.g., manual wheelchair, walker, cane)? You may be eligible for a research study to evaluate PrivyPod—a new, affordable, and accessible modular bathroom designed to help older adults safely age in place at home. Participation involves a visit to the study lab to try out three different bathroom setups and share your feedback.

STUDY PURPOSE

The purpose of this research is to gather design feedback and evaluate PrivyPod—a modular, prefabricated accessible bathroom designed to support older adults with mobility impairments who wish to age in place, but do not have the ability to easily access a full bathroom.

COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?

• Are 65 years of age or older
• Live in the community (e.g., private residence, rental property)
• Have moving difficulty or use a moving aide (e.g., manual wheelchair, walker, cane)
• Can move a short distance with or without a moving aide to complete activities of daily living within a bathroom
• Can safely use a stairlift

WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT

• Online Questionnaire (15-20 minutes)
• Virtual Screening with an Physical Therapist via Zoom (15-20 minutes)
• In-person session at the Healthy Home Lab (2-3 hours)
