STUDY BASICS

Did you have a baby during the COVID-19 pandemic? You may be able to participate in a research study being conducted by UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital, Pitt Public Health, and Healthy Start, Inc. to learn about stressful events in pregnancy that happened during the pandemic. Compensation is provided.

STUDY PURPOSE

We are trying to learn more about how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected women during and after their pregnancies. The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted maternal health both directly through infection, but also indirectly on the physical, economic, social, and mental wellbeing of pregnant women. The insight you share could help us improve pregnancies for women in the future. We hope that the results of studies like this can help women have the support that they need for healthier pregnancies and better long-term health. 

COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?

Eligible participants:

• Live in Allegheny County and/or
• Were enrolled in the MOMI (Magee Obstetric Maternal Index) biobank between March 2020 and December 2021 
• Became pregnant after March 2020 and/or delivered after June 2020 (during the pandemic period)

WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT

Participants will be asked to provide a blood and urine sample, complete a questionnaire, and allow access to their medical records. At the end of the questionnaire, we will ask participants to take some time to reflect on both the positive and negative aspects of their experience of pregnancy and the postpartum period. We will ask them to share their thoughts in writing, or through recording. A questionnaire-only option is available to women who delivered a live birth between June 2020 and December 2021, regardless of delivery location and MOMI enrollment.
