About Eyes and Vision

When light hits the eye, a delicate set of lenses, films, filters, and neurons work together to focus, channel, and convert that light into an image for the brain. The eye is a sophisticated and well-orchestrated system, but the same sensitivity that allows it to perceive so many details also makes the eye vulnerable. Some pediatric conditions like strabismus, when one set of eye muscles are out of sync, can cause serious problems if not caught and treated. Eye infections like conjunctivitis (also called pinkeye) can be highly contagious, spreading quickly. Studies involving the eyes and vision could provide crucial insights into new treatments for these and similar conditions.
