Cold-Sleep for Long-duration Spaceflight Study
STUDY BASICS
Are you 18-55 years old, and have no major medical problems? You may be able to participate in a laboratory research study to identify drugs and protocols that can lower activity and metabolism in astronauts during long spaceflights. Compensation is provided.
STUDY PURPOSE
Purpose of the study is to identify drugs and methods that can lower activity and metabolism in astronauts during long spaceflights in order to conserve oxygen, food, and reduce the psychological stress from being confined in a spaceship for multiple weeks.

- Age 18-55 years old
- No major medical problems
WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT
This Study requires two visits on separate days to a laboratory at the University of Pittsburgh in Oakland:
- Screening visit that will take about 1 hour, and
- Protocol visit that will take 8-10 hours
Participants will have intravenous catheters for blood draws, wear a number of physiological monitors, and take a sedating medication by mouth while in the laboratory.
