SHUTi in Asthma Study
STUDY BASICS
Are you an adult with asthma and sleep problems? Researchers are trying to find out if an online cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) program called SHUTi (Sleep Healthy Using the Internet) can help improve sleep in adults with asthma and sleep problems. This research study is conducted entirely online. The SHUTi program is provided at no cost.
STUDY PURPOSE
The purpose of this study is to help researchers learn if an online cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) program called SHUTi (Sleep Healthy Using the Internet) can help improve sleep in adults with asthma and sleep difficulties. Cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) is a type of therapy that helps identify and replace thoughts and behaviors that cause or worsen sleep problems with habits that promote sound sleep. Researchers are also interested in learning if improvements in sleep may reduce asthma symptoms and the need for rescue medications.COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?

WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT
Total study participation lasts about 8 weeks. The SHUTi program is organized into 6 weekly online sessions. Each week, participants will complete a 45-minute interactive learning module and use the techniques and strategies they have learned to improve their sleep habits, behaviors, and thoughts. Participants will complete a brief, daily online sleep diary as part of the program, and will also receive personalized sleep recommendations and feedback. Participants will also be asked to complete 5-10 minute questionnaires immediately before and directly after the 6-week SHUTi program. Participants will have access to the SHUTi program at no cost for 8 weeks after their study participation has ended.IRB: PRO15100531
