STUDY BASICS

Are you at least 70 years old and willing to have an MRI? If so, you may be eligible to participate in a research study to help researchers understand what makes it more difficult to walk as we age. Participation involves several in person visits over 3 years. There are no medications or lifestyle changes involved in this study. Transportation is available, if needed. Compensation is provided.


STUDY PURPOSE

The main purpose of SOMMA2 is to understand how muscle changes as we age. We hope that this research project will help us understand why some people develop problems walking as they get older.


COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?
  • at least 70 years old
  • able to attend visits at the study clinic
  • willing to have an MRI

WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT

There are no medications or lifestyle changes involved in this study.  Participants will be asked to complete several examinations within the first month and then return at least one time a year for three years, with phone calls between visits.
