STUDY BASICS

Are you the parent of a healthy, typically developing 4-year old and speak English and/or Spanish? You may be able to participate in a research study to help researchers develop a family program. Participation involves making short videos of you and your child during family routines at home. Compensation is provided.


STUDY PURPOSE

Parents play an important role in a child’s development. The purpose of this study is to help researchers design the materials and content of family program tailored to both English-speaking and Latino Spanish-speaking families. Researchers hope their findings lead to a better understanding of how we can help Latino families to support their children’s development and learning.


COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?
  • Primary caregiver of a 4-year-old child who is healthy and developing typically
  • Parent able to speak, read, and write in English and/or Spanish fluently
  • Live in the United States

WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT

Participation involves parents making videos with their children during family routines at home. The duration of the study is 2 weeks.

Diana Leyva

Diana Leyva, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Psychology in the Department of Psychology at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Leyva’s research interests include how families help children to develop their language, literacy, math and socio-emotional skills, particularly as they transition from preschool/kindergarten to elementary.





Melissa Libertus

Melissa Libertus, PhD, is a Professor of Psychology in the Department of Psychology at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Libertus’s research interests include brain development, how children think, and how parents support children’s learning.
