STUDY BASICS
Are you the birth mother of a 4 to 6-year-old child? Have you been feeling depressed? You may be eligible for a research study using electroencephalogram (EEG) to help understand how being your child’s emotion or behavior coach can help them process emotions in their brain. This study involves you and your child participating in two in-person visits in the span of 5 weeks. Compensation provided.
STUDY PURPOSE
The purpose of this research study is to provide mothers of 4-6 year old children an opportunity to learn how to support their child’s emotions and behaviors in a positive way.

- mother is feeling sad, down or depressed
WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT
There will be a total of 5 study visits which will take place once a week for 5 weeks in a row. The first and last visits will be at the study office in Oakland. Visits 2, 3 and 4 will take place virtually over Zoom or at the study office (in Oakland).

Judith Morgan
Judith Morgan, PhD, is Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Dr. Morgan specializes in child and adolescent psychology. Her particular specialty is understanding how emotional and social development in childhood can influence the risk for depression.
Lauren Bylsma
Lauren M. Bylsma, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Dr. Bylsma specializes in examining emotional processes across development using neurobehavioral and psychophysiological measures, with a focus on familial risk for depression.
