Are you a healthy female aged 30-45 who takes no medications? If so, you may be able to participate in 1-visit research study to help better understand how estrogen levels affect sleep and bone density. Compensation provided.
STUDY PURPOSE
Estrogen is a hormone that has an effect on many body systems. The purpose of this study is to help better understand how estrogen levels affect sleep and bone density in women with and without the eating disorder anorexia nervosa. Researchers hope their findings will lead to better ways to treat women with anorexia nervosa in the future.
COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?
- Healthy females aged 30-45
- Not underweight or overweight (BMI must be between 18.6 and 24.9)
- Regular menstrual cycles (21-35 day cycles)
- Not taking ANY medications
- Not pregnant or breastfeeding
WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT
Participation involves one 2-3 hour study visit and includes questionnaires, a bone density (DXA) scan, a blood draw, and a saliva sample.

Pouneh K. Fazeli, MD, MPH, is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of Pittsburgh. A graduate of Harvard University, Dr. Fazeli’s research interests include understanding both the benefits and negative consequences of undernutrition.
