STUDY BASICS

We're inviting Hispanic parents and their teens ages 12-16 to participate in a research study to test a new educational program about healthy relationships and how parents and teens can better communicate about dating. Participants will be compensated for their time!


STUDY PURPOSE

The goal of this study is to pilot test an educational program on healthy and unhealthy dating for Latino adolescents and their parents/caregivers.


COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOUR CHILD?
  • Are between the ages of 12-16
  • Identify as Hispanic or Latino/a/x/e
  • Speak Spanish or English
  • Live within 50 miles of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
  • Have a parent or caregiver also participating in the study

WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT

This study is called a “randomized clinical trial,” which means some participants will participate in the educational program and some participants will be put on a wait list and will receive a list of resources. Everyone who decides to participate will also be asked to complete 3 surveys, and participants in the education program will also take brief mini-surveys after each group session. The total time you will be part of this study is around 5 months.

Maya Ragavan

Maya Ragavan, MD, is a general pediatrician and researcher at the University of Pittsburgh/Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. She is interested in learning more about ways to improve well-child care for children and families. Her research also focuses on supporting families who have experienced stress or trauma.
