STUDY BASICS

If you are between the ages of 50-80, you may be able to take part in a research study to help learn more about depression and suicidal ideation in older adults. This study involves interviews and a neuroimaging assessment via fMRI, as well as playing some games on a computer. Compensation is provided.

STUDY PURPOSE

The purpose of this study is to gather information about depression symptoms and suicidal ideation in older adults. Researchers will compare people with and without depressive symptoms, and hope that these findings will lead to improved assessments and treatments for people with depression and thoughts of suicide.

COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?
  • Experiencing symptoms of depression such as low mood, feelings of guilt, thoughts of suicide, loss of motivation, changes in weight or appetite, insomnia
  • Willing and able to have an fMRI scan

WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT

Participation includes one to two visits to determine eligibility for enrollment. These visits can be virtual if you prefer and will involve questionnaires and interviews. You will be compensated for these visits.

If you qualify for the study, you will then be scheduled for an fMRI (functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging) scan. An fMRI scan is an imaging technique for measuring brain function. The fMRI is non-invasive and does not involve radiation. We may also ask you to come into our lab following the scan to play some games on the computer at a future, optional session.
