STUDY BASICS

Are you a female between 18 and 45 years of age? You may be eligible for a research study to assess the safety and acceptability of two placebo vaginal films. Compensation is provided.


STUDY PURPOSE

The purpose of this research study is to assess the safety and acceptability of two vaginal placebo film products in approximately 100 women across sites in the US and Africa. The films are being used in HIV research. However, the films that are being used in this study are placebos and do not contain any medication. They do not prevent HIV.


COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?
  • Assigned female sex at birth
  • 18 - 45 years old
  • Not pregnant or breastfeeding

WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT
  • Using placebo (dummy; no active medication) vaginal film twice
  • 4 in-person visits + 6 phone calls
  • Collection of blood and genital samples

MEET THE RESEARCHER


Katherine Bunge

Katherine Bunge, MD, MPH, is an Assistant Professor, Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences at Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC. Dr. Bunge's research interests include investigating the safety of vaginal microbicide products, expanding contraceptive options in HIV prevention trials, and developing alternative microbicide formulations. Dr. Bunge earned her medical and masters degrees from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, completed her residency at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, and performed her fellowship at Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC.
