STUDY BASICS

Are you 18-40 with a diagnosis of Turner Syndrome? You may be eligible for a research study investigating the effects of low estrogen on bone health and sleep quality. Participation includes only a single study visit which will include a bone density scan and blood draw. Compensation provided.


STUDY PURPOSE

This research study will be investigating the effects of low estrogen on bone health and sleep quality.  


COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?
  • 18-40 years of age
  • diagnosis of Turner syndrome

WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT

One study visit, lasting approximately 2-3 hours.  Research procedures include:

  • medical history
  • physical 
  • urine pregnancy test 
  • bone density (DXA) scan
  • one blood draw (approximately 7 tablespoons) 
  • one 24-hour urine cortisol test
  • questionnaires about sleep, depression, and anxiety

Pouneh K. Fazeli, MD, MPH, is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of Pittsburgh. A graduate of Harvard University, Dr. Fazeli’s research interests include understanding both the benefits and negative consequences of undernutrition.
