STUDY BASICS

This research study will be investigating how the human body responds to four different challenges: sugar, exercise, fasting, and a steroid. Participation includes a screening visit and 4 additional study visits where the participant will undergo blood draws through an IV line and measurement of resting energy expenditure. Compensation is provided.


STUDY PURPOSE

This research study will be investigating how the human body responds to four different challenges: sugar, exercise, fasting, and a steroid.  The purpose of this research study is to learn how aging impacts health.


COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?
  • Ages 65 and older with and without chronic health problems

WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT

Participation includes a screening visit (involving a blood draw, DXA bone density scan, and physical exam) and 4 additional study visits where the participant will undergo the following:

  • Blood draws through an IV line
  • Measurement of resting energy expenditure

Pouneh Fazeli

Pouneh K. Fazeli, MD, MPH, is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of Pittsburgh. A graduate of Harvard University, Dr. Fazeli’s research interests include understanding both the benefits and negative consequences of undernutrition.
