STUDY BASICS
Have you been diagnosed with ovarian cancer? You may be eligible for a research study to help develop a “virtual librarian” for women with ovarian cancer and their families. Participation involves using the system for the full 12 weeks at your convenience and complete a survey at the baseline, then every six weeks, amounting to three times in total (baseline, 6 weeks, and 12 weeks).
STUDY PURPOSE
We are building a personalized information recommender system that suggests online information for ovarian cancer patients reflecting different needs of patients. Currently many patients who sought health information on the web reported feeling overwhelmed by the vast amount of unfiltered information and unqualified to determine the quality, veracity, and relevance of the information. We have developed a prototype of our recommender system named HELPeR, designed to assess its feasibility for ovarian cancer patients and caregivers over a period of 12 weeks, during which we will gather participant feedback.
