ADAPT Study
STUDY BASICS
Are you pregnant or have you recently had a baby? OR are you a Perinatal Care and Family Support provider? Researchers at the University of Pittsburgh are conducting a research study to learn how to better support healthy sleep during the postpartum period.
STUDY PURPOSE
The purpose of this research study is to learn women’s experiences with sleep after childbirth and their thoughts on a community-centric intervention that aims to help improve sleep health.
COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?
Postpartum individuals:
- Age 18 years or older
- Are less than 2 years postpartum
Community Health Workers:
- Currently employed or affiliated with Healthy Start or a similar maternal-child community organization
WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT
- Complete a 20-30 minute online survey with the following topics:
- Your background and general well-being
- Your sleep experiences and challenges
- What kind of sleep support would work for you
- Reactions to real sleep support program scenarios with visuals
- Then, some participant may be invited for a 45-60 minute follow-up interview

Marquis Hawkins
Marquis Hawkins, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Pittsburgh. A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Hawkins’ research interests include the interrelationship between physical activity and sleep during and after pregnancy, as well as the independent and joint relationships these health behaviors have with maternal health outcomes.
