Transcranial electrical stimulation for noninvasive study of menopausal/perimenopausal symptoms
STUDY BASICS
Want to help women's health? This research study is looking for participants who are currently going through menopause and experiencing characteristic menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes.
STUDY PURPOSE
This research aims to assess the tolerability of transcranial electrical stimulation of the brain and explore the response of TES on menopausal/perimenopausal symptoms including hot flashes effects, depression/anxiety, memory-problems, and muscular problems. This study will assess what types of electrical brain stimulation affect different menopausal related symptoms. This study will help guide the development of electrical stimulation to be used for improving women’s health during menopause transition.
COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?
- Are between 40-60 years old
- Are not pregnant
- Are not taking tamoxifen, aromatase inhibitors, GnRH agonists/antagonists
- No neurological, heart, hemorrhagic, or muscle disorders
WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT
• Receive pre-participation screening
• Receive general information about the procedure
• Be asked to attend up to 25 sessions each lasting up to 5 hours over the course of 4-5 weeks
• Complete surveys at home
• Complete one 2-week follow-up phone call survey 2 weeks after the last visit
• Receive compensation for each session
