SleepChart - Adults 18 to 26
STUDY BASICS
Are you a healthy adult between the ages of 18 and 26? You may be eligible to participate in a research study to learn about how sleep changes over the course of late childhood, adolescence and young adulthood. Compensation is provided.
STUDY PURPOSE
Sleep is a modifiable factor that supports healthy development; the quality and amount of sleep a young people get is associated with a long-term emotional, cognitive, and physical health outcomes in adulthood. Our goal is to develop sleep growth charts that enable earlier detection of suboptimal sleep in young people and help us create personalized sleep interventions.
COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?
- Ages 18-26 years-old
- No history of bipolar disorder or psychosis
- No major physical health conditions
- Not currently depressed
- Not using medication for sleep or mental health
- Not currently engaged in shift work
- Not pregnant or breastfeeding
WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT
After completing an online pre-screening survey, this study begins with an eligibility assessment (in-person or virtual) that will last about an hour. If you are eligible and interested in the full study, participation will involve at-home sleep monitoring with portable devices that track sleep patterns and physiology for one week, followed by a single overnight visit at the University of Pittsburgh sleep lab in Oakland. Then, online follow-up surveys will be completed every year for 2 years. Compensation is provided for participating in the study but not for the initial online pre-screening survey.
