STUDY BASICS

Do you live in a senior-living community or attend an adult day program? Are you at least 55 years old? You can sign up for the Platinum Senior-Living Research Registry and learn about research study opportunities that may be conducted on site at your senior-living community. Study topics may include physical activity, exercise, fall and fracture prevention, medications, sleep, and other issues.


STUDY PURPOSE

A research registry is a list of individuals who volunteer to provide information about themselves and agree to be contacted about future research opportunities. The purpose of the Platinum Senior-Living Research Registry is to create a list of senior-living residents and facilities willing to consider participating in research studies. Researchers also collaborate with senior-living facility administration to conduct research on site when possible. This research registry is sponsored by the National Institutes of Health and the University of Pittsburgh Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center.


COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?
  • Age 55 and up
  • Reside in a senior-living setting (ex., senior high-rise apartments, senior independent living communities, assisted living facilities, personal care homes, nursing homes/skilled nursing facilities) OR participate in adult day programs
  • Able to provide informed consent or assent (or have a proxy/ power of attorney if the participant is unable to provide written consent)

WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT

Participation involves:

  • Completing a brief questionnaire about functional status, medical conditions, cognitive and emotional status, and contact information
  • Being contacted about research studies that may be a good match Participants may also receive a variety of updates such as newsletters, brochures, announcements, or letters when Pepper Center research studies or other affiliated programs become available.

MEET THE RESEARCHER


Jennifer Brach

Jennifer S. Brach is a professor in the Department of Physical Therapy. Her areas of interest include community-based participatory research, aging, gait, exercise, physical activity, and physical function. She is responsible for teaching research methods in physical therapy courses in the DPT program and the Methods of Inquiry course in the PhD program. As of January 2024, Dr. Brach was appointed the new director of the Pepper Center.
