STUDY BASICS
Do you have recurrent urinary tract infections? You may be eligible for a research study focusing on two different ways to manage urinary tract infection symptoms in older women. Compensation is provided.
STUDY PURPOSE
Many women are affected by urinary tract infection. We are investigating what patients know about UTIs and also conducting a trial of receiving antibiotics or waiting until you have a urine test. There is no direct benefit for subjects, but we hope the info obtained from our study will help us better care for women with urinary tract infections.
COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?
Eligible participants:
- Are women at least 65 years old
- Have a recurrent history of urinary tract infections
WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT
The study will investigate one of two options to manage urinary tract infection in women age 65 and older. These two options are either receiving antibiotics when you first start symptoms of a urinary tract infection or waiting until there are results from your urine testing to decide on the need for antibiotics. When you get urinary tract infection symptoms you will be scheduled for either an in-person or remote visit where you will have an interview with the study team, we will record some information from your medical record and you will complete questionnaires. This visit will take about 20 minutes. You will then submit a urine test. Please be assured that regardless of your study assignment you will receive antibiotics if you need them. Everyone will then complete questionnaires either by email or by phone every week for three more weeks.
