STUDY BASICS
Are you the caregiver of someone over 65 years old who has experienced a sudden and serious traumatic injury requiring a trip to the emergency room in the last 3-6 months? You could be eligible to participate in a research study to help improve decisions doctors make to treat these injuries. Traumatic injuries could include broken ribs, a spinal cord injury or head injury. Compensation provided.
STUDY PURPOSE
The purpose of this research is to examine the way doctors think and direct care when they treat senior patients with serious injuries. Ultimately, better decisions may lead to better outcomes.
COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?
- You must be 18 years or older and the caregiver for someone older than 65.
- Caregiver of an elderly person who had a sudden and serious traumatic injury and had to go to the emergency department in the last 3-6 months. Traumatic injuries usually involve multiple body systems such as: a head injury plus broken ribs or a spinal cord injury plus a broken bone.
WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT
- One 30-minute interview
- You will be asked questions regarding your experience as the caregiver of an elderly trauma patient in the emergency department.
- The interview will be recorded and will take place over a Zoom call on-line or phone call.
- You will be paid $50 for participating.
