Muscle Impact of Treating Osteoporosis - MITO Study
STUDY BASICS
Are you a woman, age 65 or older with osteoporosis or fracture history? You may be eligible for a research study evaluating impact of FDA-approved osteoporosis medications denosumab (Prolia) and zoledronic acid (RECLAST) on muscle and bone health. Parking provided.
STUDY PURPOSE
The purpose of this study is to understand the effect of medications that are used to treat osteoporosis (porous bone) on muscle health. Research has shown bone and muscle are tightly connected and those who have healthier muscles have healthier bones. Muscle health also is important to activities of daily living and preventing falls. In this study we will examine the impact of medications that are used to treat osteoporosis on muscle mass (bulk), strength and function and will also assess correlation of muscle health with bone health.
COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?
- Woman, age 65 or older
- Have been diagnosed with osteoporosis OR with osteopenia (low bone mass) and at high risk for fractures.
