STUDY BASICS

Are you 18-25 or 40-55 years old? You may be able to participate in a research study designed to look at how your ear and your brain work together to understand sounds. Researchers at the University of Pittsburgh are trying to figure out the causes of problems hearing speech in noise to identify markers of hearing difficulties so that they can test potential therapies in the future.


STUDY PURPOSE

The purpose of this research study is to look at the relationship between aging and speech perception ability.  This research study is designed to look at how your ear and your brain work together to understand sounds.  The research team is interested in figuring out the causes of problems hearing speech in noise.


COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?
  • 18-25 or 40-55 years old
  • have normal hearing without the use of auditory devices
  • a native English speaker or fluent in English

WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT

Up to three visits involving ear examinations, EEG recordings, and computerized hearing tests and tasks.
