STUDY BASICS

Are you age 45 or above? Are you feeling stressed? Have you been diagnosed with high blood pressure? You may be eligible for a research study to examine the feasibility and effectiveness of a smartphone-based mindfulness training program for reducing stress and blood pressure reactivity to stress during daily life. Compensation provided.


STUDY PURPOSE

The purpose of this research study is to examine whether a smartphone-based mindfulness training intervention reduces stress and cardiovascular responses to stress during daily life.

  • Feel stressed
  • Diagnosed with high blood pressure

WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT

The study involves 7 visits and 3 week-long daily monitoring periods over the course of a 5-month period.

Thomas Kamarck

Thomas W. Kamarck, PhD, is a Professor of Psychology and Chair of the Biological and Health Program in the Department of Psychology. A graduate of the University of Oregon, Dr. Kamarck studies how behavioral and biological factors impact risk for heart disease and hypertension.





Emily Lindsay

Emily Lindsay, PhD is a research professor in Psychology at Pitt. Her research tests how mindfulness training can impact stress and health, and emphasizes the importance of cultivating an accepting attitude toward thoughts, feelings, and sensations.
