STUDY BASICS

Are you female or do you identify as female? Are you 40-59 years old? If so, you may be able to take part in a research study to help better understand how different experiences and feelings in relationships are related to heart health and sleep among midlife women. Compensation provided.


STUDY PURPOSE

The purpose of this study is to better understand cardiovascular health in female or female-identifying midlife adults who have had a variety of experiences and feelings in their past and current relationships, including their spouse, romantic partners, family members, friends, and others. 


COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?

Eligible participants are:

  • Female or female-identifying adults (female assigned sex at birth OR identify as woman/female)
  • Aged 40-59
  • Not pregnant
  • Fluent in English (oral and written)

WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT

This study involves wearing a watch that measures sleep and movement patterns as you go about your daily activities, interviews about medical and psychiatric history, one fasting blood draw, questionnaires and daily surveys on your smartphone that ask you about your social interactions, feelings, and health behaviors; and ultrasound images of arteries in your neck. The study involves at least one visit in Oakland. Some study procedures may be completed remotely. We will work around your schedule as much as possible.

MEET THE RESEARCHER


Karen Jakubowski

Karen Jakubowski, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and licensed psychologist at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Jakubowski received her PhD in Clinical-Health Psychology at the University of Pittsburgh. Her research is focused on understanding relationships between trauma, stress, and cardiovascular disease across the lifespan, with an emphasis on midlife women’s cardiovascular health and sleep.
