iCARE2 investigating Concussion in Adolescents at Risk for Emotion dysregulation - Healthy children 10-17
STUDY BASICS
Are you the parent of a healthy child 10 to 17? Your child may be eligible to be a healthy volunteer for a research study to improve understanding of how the brain recovers after a concussion in adolescents. Compensation is provided.
STUDY PURPOSE
The purpose of this research study is to examine possible differences in the brain functioning and structure of youth with and without concussion. This study uses magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to look at how the brain works and saliva to assess levels of pubertal hormones.
COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOUR CHILD?
- 10-17 years old
- Never had a concussion
- No current orthopedic injury
- Right-handed
- No metal implants
WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT
If your child is found to be eligible, there will be 4 visits over the course of 6 months.
- MRI
- The MRI visit is the longest (about 2 hours). It will consist of a 1-hour MRI scan. During that visit, your child will be asked to complete surveys regarding their symptoms, moods, and behaviors.
- Follow up at 4 weeks, 3 months* and 6 months
- The follow-up visits will be fully remote (about 30 minutes)
- Your child will complete surveys regarding their mood and behavior.
- *There will be an optional second MRI at the 3-month visit.
