Decentralized Biobanking "de-bi": An app for tracking research donations

STUDY BASICS

Are you 18 and older and interested what happens to the tumor/tissue/blood you donate for research? This research project is developing an app for those who want to track or learn about their biosample donations and studying patient preferences for feedback about research on their biosamples.

STUDY PURPOSE

The purpose of this research study is to develop an app for patients to track and learn about biosamples they’ve donated for research. We hope to learn about what patients want to know about research on their tumors/tissues, blood, and other biosamples. We are also looking at when and how patients would like to be updated about how their biospecimens are being used in research. 

COULD THIS STUDY BE RIGHT FOR YOU?

• 18 years of age or older
• If you have had breast cancer treatment, breast surgery, biopsies, related lab tests, breast screening, or preventative breast care at UPMC, you may also be eligible to receive personalized information about your research donations. Access to this info will be provided as part of your participation in this study.
• It’s okay if you don’t know if you’re previously signed up to donate the biosamples collected during your clinical care; a member of the study team will check for you.
• Even if you are not currently eligible to receive this personalized biosample info, you are able to download our app, take our survey, connect with your biosample donor comminity and join our waitlist to recieve personalized info in the future.
